Affordable Housing
Every family deserves a safe, stable place to call home.
The Challenge
Housing costs in Riverside County have skyrocketed over the past decade. Many long-time residents—including seniors on fixed incomes, young families, and essential workers—are being priced out of the communities they’ve called home for generations.
As a former member of the Riverside County Housing Authority, I’ve seen these challenges firsthand. I know the families who are struggling, and I know what works.
My Plan
Increase Affordable Housing Supply
- Support zoning reforms that allow for more housing types, including accessory dwelling units (ADUs) and missing middle housing
- Streamline the permitting process for affordable housing developments
- Partner with nonprofit housing developers to maximize federal and state funding
- Advocate for inclusionary housing policies that require new developments to include affordable units
Protect Existing Residents
- Strengthen tenant protections to prevent unjust evictions
- Support programs that help seniors age in place
- Fund emergency rental assistance programs
- Oppose developments that would displace existing affordable housing without replacement
Address Homelessness
- Expand mental health and substance abuse services
- Support Housing First approaches that get people into stable housing quickly
- Partner with local organizations to provide comprehensive services
- Increase funding for homeless outreach teams
My Record
On the City Council, I passed the first inclusionary housing ordinance in our city’s history, requiring new developments to include affordable units. I also championed tenant protection legislation and secured funding for emergency rental assistance during the pandemic.
